Hurt in a car accident in San Diego or Poway? Anderson Chiropractic & Wellness provides treatment and rehabilitation for injuries from automobile accidents at 10585 Scripps Poway Pkwy, Ste C, in Scripps Ranch. Dr. David Anderson starts with your history and a full exam, then builds a plan around what he finds. Call (858) 549-1088, or walk in.
First: do you need the emergency room?
Call 911 for a head injury with passing out, fainting or confusion, or for an injury to your neck or spine, particularly with loss of feeling or inability to move. MedlinePlus also says to go to an emergency department or call 911 for an unusual or bad headache, dizziness or weakness that does not go away, or severe pain anywhere on your body.
Dr. Anderson’s own advice is to consult with your doctor before making an appointment for chiropractic care after an automobile accident. See headache after a crash: concussion signs and whiplash and neck pain after a car accident.
What happens at your first visit?
- Your history. The office documents your medical history as it relates to your injuries, along with what you have already tried.
- A full exam. Dr. Anderson looks at your range of motion and the alignment and curvature of your neck, and may run neurological tests for muscle strength and reflexes.
- Imaging if it is needed. He may order X-rays, MRIs or CAT scans.
- Your general practitioner. The office consults with your general practitioner before performing any adjustments.
- A plan for you. Every patient receives an individualized treatment plan, including in-office services and follow-up at home.
What might care include?
That depends on your exam. The office offers manual and Activator adjustments, spinal decompression, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, electro-muscle stimulation, moist heat, cryotherapy, massage therapy, rehabilitation and corrective exercises.
“After a car accident I try different chiropractors and he is by far the best!” wrote Maya M. in a Google review.
What is whiplash?
MedlinePlus describes whiplash as a soft tissue injury to the neck, also called a neck sprain or strain. Treatment depends on the cause, and you rarely need surgery. Read more in whiplash and neck pain after a car accident, and if your pain is lower down, see herniated disk after an accident.
How is care paid for after an accident?
The office asks for payment at the time of service, and takes cash, check with valid ID, debit, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. It is in network with many health plans, including Anthem Blue Cross / Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare and Humana. Aetna is out of network, and the office is not accepting Medicare at this time.
Your auto policy may also help. The California Department of Insurance explains medical payments coverage, which can pay for medical expenses no matter who was at fault, if you bought it. See MedPay in California, then call (858) 549-1088 and ask how your care can be billed.
What else should you do after a crash?
California has its own accident report, the SR-1, due to the DMV within 10 days in many crashes. The Department of Insurance also has a list of what to do next, including what a medical payments claim needs.
